The year 2008 is a special year in China, It is special not only because the Olympics will be held in China, but also because the heavy snow fell at the beginning of the year, which is the heaviest one since 1951. However, facing the cruel disaster, people of all walks united to fight against it. Seeing that they worked hard to ensure the traffic going steadily, to help the people in the stricken areas, what I feel is not the coldness, but the warmth of peoples’ unity and of family members’ care about each other. On January 17 th, I returned home. It was not until I turned on the television that I knew what a misfortune had happened in China, in some areas the disaster was especially severe. There were two programs on the television, one was confrontation with the storm, the other was Melt the snow with love, from which I knew that in the heavily - stricken areas, people were trapped in their homes, with traffic blocked and electricity cut. I also knew that Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had arrived in Guangdong to give the people their consolation and allocation. In a special interview, a group of workers, who were Hebeinese, had given up their precious time to unite with family members to come to the Hunan people’ help. I also knew that our guardian—policemen were on their duty around the clock, only taking several pieces of bread as their food. In the interview, a young policeman, who had just gotten married, told the journalist that he had been standing on this road for 3 days. On the railway where the travelers were trapped in the train for a long time, the residents nearby sent them hot water and clothes. Knowing that so many people were trapped on their way home and so many areas were without electricity, pray for them, as well as for the lovely workers and the policemen. Wish them security and good luck. In my hometown, though the snow did not fall so heavy and continually, my family also experienced a hard time, for after 3 days of snow falling, a sheet of ice covered the ground. My cousin brother’ s wedding was held just after the snow’s cessation, the ground was still slippery; we worried about everyone’s security when we rode to his home. Moreover, we suffered from the electricity being cut off for a while, during those days. I was worried about my grandfather, who was 91 years old. I worried that he would slip on the ground or hurt himself in the darkness, so I helped him to walk from here to there. In that harsh time, my father went to the market to buy some candles, which brought light to my house. After the snow falling, the mountains, the fields, the houses were covered with snow: it seemed so pure, holy and serene. Now the snow has stopped, leaving facilities and houses in the heavy - stricken areas to be rebuilt. It is a heavy and harsh snow in deed, however, casting the cruelty aside, we see the brotherliness of Chinese people, and the natural beauty in snow, and there must be other things that make us feel warm in that special period.
