Before the worst storm in the past 50 years began to hit my country, I had already returned from my school to be with my family. Though my hometown was severely affected, the people in the center of the city suffered from nothing but cold. The heavy snow prevented us from going out, so most of us stayed inside to keep warm. How boring the vacation would be! It was hard to imagine how I could go through such a dull vacation being "imprisoned" in a house. I began to doubt whether my New Year's wish would come true. So freezing was the weather that we all preferred to curl up in our bed till late in the morning. One day, I was up earlier than my parents, so I wanted to take this chance to prepare a breakfast for them. My specialty is making noodles. First, I boiled a pan of water, added some noodles and continued to boil the water till the noodles were soft. And then, I boiled another pan of water and put the noodles into it and added some seasonings and spices. Everything seemed to be right. I believed it would taste delicious because I followed almost every step as my mom does. Looking at my "masterpiece", I couldn't help being proud of myself. When my parents finally got to enjoy my noodles, I looked at them, hoping they would be surprised. They were surprised, so was I. But the noodles turned out to be a disaster: I put too much salt and pepper in it. What a bolt from the blue! My feeling was just like a ball falling from the peak of a mountain into the bottomless abyss. At that time, my mom walked up to me:" They are not too bad, actually. You didn't make it into paste. Do you want to try again? I'll help you." Looking into my mom's eyes, I felt a glow in my heart. After that particular dinner was the sweetest and most enjoyable part of my day. We talked about everything from family small business to national big news like friends. And my little four-year-old brother's special performance always brought our family time to climax: imitating what his teachers did in kindergarten in a rather serious way. "Okay, now, read after me. Xiao, X-I-A-O, Xiao. You, Liudanping, read it." "Please read it aloud. Loud enough please!" "No, not loud enough yet. Louder!" "Yeah, good!" "Stop making noise, it's not the market. Quiet! Be quiet, or you'll be punished. You, go the front of the classroom. Stand still for five minutes." Besides, he would also teach us a nursery rhyme, which he learned from school. And he would dance and tell a story in a funny way. But he was not always so lovely. Sometimes he was kind of unreasonable. He forced us to watch children's programs with him. It was really torture at first. But later, we came to find that these programs show us a different way to understand the world and help us discover the beautiful covered things around us. My days in the worst storm were very ordinary, nothing special. I did not suffer as much as those who were stuck in the storm or those who lost their homes or families. I did not spend my vacation traveling to other places, either. But I did have a wonderful and happy winter vacation more enjoyable than any other vacations I had taken before. Because I was there with my family during the disaster, together going through the hard time. And my New Year's wish came true: being with my family, healthy and happy, and enjoying our peaceful life.
