I will never forget the worst storm that happened in 2008. I experienced things I never had before. The storm was so terrible that the deep memory is still in my mind.

Before the Spring Festival, I imagined how interesting and colorful my life would be. I also expected to see snow for it was winter. I hadn’t seen heavy snow for several years. In my mind, snow represents purity and romance.

One day, when I woke up, I suddenly found the white snow had covered the world. It was so beautiful. I could not control my exciting mood. But unfortunately, the weather became abnormal all over China. The snow was the worst storm in southern areas. The serious disaster then followed. We couldn’t underestimate the ferocity of the storm. The storm lasted for half a month. Radio, television, and the Internet were sending the latest news of the storm throughout the entire day. From the TV reports, I understood how terrible it was! Because of the storm, many people couldn’t get home; Because of it lots of people lived without electricity and water; Because of it some people lost their lives and families. Many places had been stricken. Because of the policemen’s bravery and courage we overcame the difficulty. Chinese people fought against the storm together. In the end, we won the victory.

Of course my life was affected to some extent. But luckily, my home had electricity during those days. Only the water to my home was cut off. Because I live on the fifth floor it was difficult to carry water upstairs especially in this colder winter. The pump was so frozen that the underground water could not go through it. My family had to face this serious problem—lack of water. Then, I realized that we shouldn’t waste a drop of water and should recycle the water when we can. I understood people in the western areas where water is in shortage. At first, I stayed in bed all day. I did not do anything nor cared about anything. But after a few days, we had to borrow water from my neighbors who live on the lower floor. Because my parents were very busy, they had no time to fetch water. This mission had to be finished, so then every morning I woke up early and carried two buckets of water. Sometimes I felt tired, but I regarded it as exercise.

Now, the storm is over. Maybe the deep memory will live in most people’s hearts. Maybe the disaster destroyed people’s normal lives. However, we should forget the pain. We must look forward to a bright future.
